This bill amends current law to extend military service credit for compensation purposes to noncertificated employees of school districts, aligning their benefits with those already provided to certificated employees. Specifically, it allows school district employees, hired on or after the bill's effective date, who have served in the active military or naval service of the United States or New Jersey since July 1, 1940, to receive equivalent years of employment credit for their military service. However, this credit cannot be applied to more than four employment or adjustment increments.
The bill clarifies that the provisions do not reduce the number of employment or adjustment increments an employee may be entitled to under existing laws or regulations regarding leaves of absence. This change aims to ensure that noncertificated employees receive the same recognition for their military service as their certificated counterparts, thereby promoting equity within school district employment practices. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
