This bill establishes a program for issuing special license plates to honorably discharged veterans in New Jersey. Upon application, veterans can receive distinctive plates that will feature a design determined by the Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, which will include the word "Veteran" and the insignia of the military branch in which they served. The application for these plates will incur a fee of $15, in addition to the standard vehicle registration fees. The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is tasked with notifying motorists about this opportunity and will also create rules and regulations for the issuance and use of these special plates.
Additionally, the bill allows surviving spouses of deceased veterans to retain the special license plates previously issued to their spouses for use on their own vehicles. The provisions of this act will take effect 180 days after its enactment, ensuring that veterans and their families can benefit from this recognition in a timely manner.
