The bill amends Section 24 of P.L.2003, c.280 (C.45:14-63) to expand the authority of pharmacists, pharmacy interns, pharmacy externs, and pharmacy technicians to administer prescription medications and vaccines to patients aged 18 and older, provided they have the appropriate education and training as determined by the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy and the State Board of Medical Examiners. Specifically, the bill allows these professionals to administer drugs under certain conditions, including pursuant to a prescription for vaccines, in immunization programs under standing orders, and in non-patient specific programs sponsored by governmental agencies. Additionally, it permits the administration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines to patients aged five and older, with parental consent required for those under 18.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that all administered vaccine doses must be reported to the New Jersey Immunization Information System for inclusion in the patient's registry. It also grants the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy and the State Board of Medical Examiners the authority to adopt necessary regulations to implement the act, which will take effect immediately upon approval.
