This bill amends R.S.39:3-27 to exempt veterans organizations chartered under federal law from motor vehicle registration fees for vehicles not used for pleasure or hire. Currently, only specific government entities and civic organizations are exempt from these fees. The bill adds veterans organizations to this list, recognizing their service and contributions.

In addition to the insertion of veterans organizations, the bill also includes other organizations such as chartered local councils of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Boys' Clubs and Girls' Clubs, and local Police Athletic League organizations. The bill also updates the terminology from "director" to "chief administrator" in several instances, clarifying the authority responsible for issuing special registration certificates and number plates for these exempt vehicles. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
