This bill amends R.S.39:3-27 to exempt veterans organizations chartered under federal law from motor vehicle registration fees for vehicles not used for pleasure or hire. Currently, only specific government entities and civic organizations are exempt from these fees. The bill adds veterans organizations to this list, thereby recognizing their contributions and providing them with similar benefits as other exempt entities.

In addition to the insertion of veterans organizations, the bill also includes the addition of chartered local councils of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Boys' Clubs of America, Girls' Clubs of America, and local organizations of the Police Athletic League, as well as ambulances owned by nonprofit organizations. The language regarding the issuance of special registration certificates and number plates has been updated to reflect a change in terminology from "director" to "chief administrator." The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
