This bill establishes a program for issuing special license plates to honorably discharged veterans in New Jersey. Upon application, veterans can receive distinctive license plates that will feature the word "Veteran" along with other required markings. The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is responsible for approving the design of these plates and will charge a $15 fee in addition to the standard vehicle registration fees. The bill also allows surviving spouses of deceased veterans to retain the special plates previously issued to their spouses for use on their own vehicles.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the Motor Vehicle Commission notify motorists about the availability of these special plates through registration renewal notices and signage in commission facilities. The Chief Administrator is also empowered to create rules and regulations regarding the issuance and use of these plates. The act is set to take effect on the first day of the seventh month following its enactment.
