This bill establishes eligibility for enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and subsequent retirement benefits for certain county fire instructors under specific conditions. It allows fire instructors who were enrolled in PERS before November 1, 2008, and who have maintained continuous membership while being employed by a county, to receive service credit and be considered eligible for retirement benefits. To qualify, these instructors must have performed service in each calendar year of their membership, earned an annual salary greater than $1,500, and been permanent career service employees in the civil service.

Additionally, the bill provides a provision for individuals whose membership in the retirement system was terminated within three years prior to the bill's enactment. These individuals may be reenrolled in PERS if they repay any contributions and interest that were returned upon termination. This legislation aims to rectify the eligibility issues faced by county fire instructors who were previously excluded from PERS benefits due to the irregular nature of their work schedules.
