This bill amends existing legislation to expand the list of establishments where the Commission on Human Trafficking is required to post public awareness signage regarding human trafficking. The current law mandates that the Commission develop a public awareness sign that includes the national, 24-hour toll-free hotline for reporting human trafficking. The bill specifies that this signage must now be displayed in additional locations, including gas stations, staffing agencies, state, county, and municipal law enforcement offices, nail salons, and New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission offices, among others.
In addition to the new establishments, the bill maintains the requirement for the signage to be clearly visible and conspicuous, with specific size and font requirements. It also establishes penalties for non-compliance, imposing a civil penalty of $300 for a first offense and $1,000 for subsequent offenses. The bill aims to enhance public awareness and reporting of human trafficking by ensuring that more individuals have access to critical information in a variety of settings.
