This bill amends existing legislation to expand the requirements for the Commission on Human Trafficking to post public awareness signage in additional establishments. The current law mandates the development of a public awareness sign that includes the national, 24-hour toll-free hotline for reporting human trafficking. The bill specifies that this signage must now be displayed in various new locations, including gas stations, staffing agencies, State, county, and municipal law enforcement offices, nail salons, and New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission offices, in addition to previously listed establishments such as strip clubs, bars, airports, and public transportation.
The bill also outlines the size and language requirements for the signage, which must be at least eight and one-half inches by eleven inches, printed in 16-point font, and available in both English and Spanish. Furthermore, it establishes penalties for non-compliance, with a civil penalty of $300 for a first offense and $1,000 for subsequent offenses. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
