This bill mandates that public transportation employees complete a one-time training course focused on handling and responding to suspected human trafficking activities. The New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJT), in collaboration with the Commission on Human Trafficking, is tasked with developing this training course or approving a similar course from a recognized nonprofit association. The bill specifies that the training must include information on recognizing signs and signals that victims of human trafficking may exhibit, and it requires the NJT to review and update the course every two years. Additionally, the NJT is responsible for ensuring that all required employees complete the training within specified timeframes and for providing the necessary training materials.
The bill also amends existing law to include similar training requirements for various sectors, such as police, hotel and motel staff, and healthcare employees, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and responding to human trafficking. The training courses across these sectors must also cover the same minimum content regarding signs of human trafficking. The Attorney General is authorized to use funds from the "Human Trafficking Survivor's Assistance Fund" to support the development and distribution of these training materials. Overall, the bill aims to enhance awareness and response capabilities regarding human trafficking across multiple public-facing sectors.
