This bill mandates that public transportation employees complete a one-time training course focused on handling and responding to suspected human trafficking activities. The New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJT), in collaboration with the Commission on Human Trafficking, is tasked with developing this training course or approving a similar course from a recognized nonprofit association. The bill specifies that the training must include information on known signs and signals that victims of human trafficking may use to seek assistance, and it requires the course to be reviewed and updated at least every two years. The NJT is responsible for ensuring that all required employees complete the training within specified timeframes and for providing the necessary training materials.
Additionally, the bill amends existing law to include similar training requirements for police, hotel and motel staff, healthcare facility employees, and judicial personnel, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing human trafficking across various sectors. The training for these groups will also cover the identification of signs of human trafficking and will be subject to regular reviews and updates. The Attorney General is authorized to allocate funds from the "Human Trafficking Survivor's Assistance Fund" to support the development and distribution of training materials.
