This bill mandates that public water systems in New Jersey enhance their notification processes regarding boil water notices and violations of drinking water quality standards. It amends existing legislation to require public water systems to notify affected customers directly about boil water notices, in addition to informing local officials. The bill specifies that this notification must occur within 24 hours of the public water system becoming aware of the issue, and it must be communicated through the preferred means of direct contact for each customer. Furthermore, public water systems are required to post these notices on their websites and social media accounts.

Additionally, the bill introduces a requirement for public water systems to solicit customers' preferred methods of contact through their water bills within 60 days of the bill's enactment. It also mandates immediate notification to local governing bodies and school administrators whenever a drinking water quality standard is violated, detailing the nature of the contaminant, test results, and suggested remedies. This comprehensive approach aims to improve communication and ensure public safety regarding water quality issues.
