The bill establishes a three-year Remote Methadone Dosing Pilot Program under the Department of Human Services, aimed at enhancing compliance and reducing costs associated with medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. The program will utilize telehealth and telemedicine to remotely monitor patients receiving methadone-based treatment, specifically those eligible for take-home doses. The Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services will select one opioid treatment program each in Atlantic City, Camden, and Paterson to participate. Each participating program will be required to report annually on various patient outcomes and cost-savings related to the pilot program.

To fund the initiative, the bill appropriates $225,000 from the General Fund, with $75,000 allocated to each selected opioid treatment program. The Department of Human Services is tasked with preparing a report within four years of the program's establishment, analyzing its impact on patient outcomes and cost-savings, and making recommendations for potential expansion of remote methadone dosing in the state. The bill also allows the Commissioners of Human Services and Health to adopt necessary regulations to implement its provisions.
