This bill mandates the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) to conduct a comprehensive study on the causes and risk factors associated with youth suicide in the state. The Commissioner of Health, in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Human Services, and the New Jersey Youth Suicide Prevention Advisory Council, will investigate various factors such as aggression, anxiety, emotional trauma, family history, and substance use. The study will involve reviewing relevant data, health records, and scientific literature while adhering to privacy laws.

Within 180 days of the bill's effective date, the Commissioner is required to submit a report to the Governor and the Legislature detailing the findings of the study. This report will also include recommendations for potential legislative or regulatory changes aimed at addressing the identified causes of youth suicide. The act will take effect immediately and will expire upon the submission of the Commissioner's findings.
