This bill mandates that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) display the toll amount paid by customers using the electronic toll collection system, known as E-ZPass, on electronic displays in every lane of their toll plazas. This requirement applies to all toll facilities operated by these authorities, specifically on the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway. However, it does not apply to toll plazas where tolls are collected via high-speed gantries.
Additionally, the bill introduces definitions for "electronic toll collection system" and clarifies the roles of the NJTA and SJTA in relation to toll collection. The electronic toll collection system is defined as the system used by the authorities to register and collect tolls for vehicles entering their toll plazas. The bill is set to take effect immediately, but it specifies that its provisions will not affect any existing contracts or agreements in place as of the effective date.
