This bill mandates that school districts in New Jersey provide age-appropriate instruction on menstrual health and hygiene for students in grades four through 12, as part of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education. The instruction will cover various topics, including the proper use of menstrual hygiene products, the symptoms and long-term effects of menstrual disorders, the implications of period poverty, and guidance on when to seek medical advice.

Additionally, prior to the commencement of any unit on menstrual health and hygiene, schools are required to distribute information to parents and guardians detailing the instructional topics and the relevant standards. The bill aims to ensure that students receive comprehensive education on menstrual health, thereby promoting awareness and understanding of related issues. The act is set to take effect immediately and will first apply to the full school year following its enactment.
