This bill mandates that public institutions of higher education in New Jersey award academic credit to students who achieve a score of three or higher on an advanced placement examination or a score of 50 or higher on a college-level examination program learning assessment. To qualify for this credit, students must be pursuing an associate or baccalaureate degree and must have completed the relevant advanced placement course and examination or college-level examination program learning assessment while in grades 9 through 12. The bill also stipulates that institutions must post their policies and procedures regarding the awarding of academic credit on their websites and submit these policies to the Secretary of Higher Education, who will also maintain a record of these policies on their own website.
Additionally, the bill allows the Secretary of Higher Education to grant exemptions to the academic credit requirements on an individual course basis if the institution can provide data demonstrating that a different required score is necessary for student success in related or more advanced courses. Institutions are required to notify the Secretary of any changes to their policies and procedures at least 60 days prior to implementation. This legislation aims to standardize the recognition of advanced placement and college-level examination credits across public higher education institutions in New Jersey.
