The New Jersey Office of Legislative Services (OLS) estimates that the bill will likely result
in an annual $338,000 increase in expenditures for the State associated with the maintenance
of specific sections of West State Street, West Lafayette Street, Barrack Street, and Memorial
Drive within the City of Trenton.
The City of Trenton maintains the adjoining portion of the roadways surrounding the capital
complex and could potentially experience revenue increases if the department decides to
consult or contract with the city for maintenance.
BILL DESCRIPTION
This bill requires the Department of Transportation to maintain the roadways that surround the
State capitol complex. Specifically, the bill would require the maintenance of specific sections of
West State Street, West Lafayette Street, Barrack Street, and Memorial Drive within the City of
Trenton. Maintenance of these roadways is required to include, but not be limited to, road paving
and snow plowing. To assist in fulfilling the bill’s requirements, the department may consult or
contract with any State agency, county, or municipality that is responsible for maintaining the
adjoining portion of each of the roadways.
