The bill establishes the Kidney Donor Insurance Fund, which will provide health benefits to individuals who donate a kidney as live donors. Under the new provisions, these donors will be eligible for a health benefits plan through the New Jersey Individual Health Coverage Program for the duration of their lives. The plan will include comprehensive services at the gold level, including prescription drug coverage. Importantly, the State will cover all premiums associated with this health benefits plan, relieving both the donor and their employer of any financial responsibility for these costs.

Additionally, the bill creates a non-lapsing, revolving fund within the Department of Banking and Insurance, designated as the "Kidney Donor Insurance Fund." This fund will collect grants and other appropriated moneys necessary to finance the health benefits plan premiums for eligible live kidney donors. The act is set to take effect immediately and will apply to all live kidney donations made on or after the date of enactment.
