This bill reappropriates unexpended funds from the New Jersey Bridge Rehabilitation and Improvement and Railroad Right-of-way Preservation Bond Act of 1989 to the Department of Transportation for bridge-related projects. Specifically, it allows for the allocation of these funds for the rehabilitation, improvement, inspection, and repair of bridges carrying State highways and those owned or maintained by the State, as well as bridges on county and municipal roads. The Commissioner of Transportation will have discretion over the allocation of these funds for emergency repairs across various counties and municipalities.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that any funds not expended or obligated within two years of the act's effective date will be consolidated into a single account and redistributed to counties based on a formula established by the department. This ensures that funds are utilized effectively for bridge maintenance and repair, addressing the needs of both state and local infrastructure. The act is set to take effect immediately upon approval.
