This bill mandates that all school districts in New Jersey incorporate age-appropriate instruction on menstrual toxic shock syndrome (TSS) for students in grades four through twelve, as part of their health and physical education curriculum. The instruction will cover the causes, symptoms, and risk reduction strategies related to TSS. The Commissioner of Education is tasked with providing sample learning activities and resources to assist schools in implementing this requirement.
Additionally, the bill requires owners of public restrooms designated for women in group A or M occupancy buildings to install and maintain signage that informs users about the warning signs, causes, and dangers of menstrual toxic shock syndrome. This signage must be placed in a prominent location, ideally near a tampon dispenser, and must be installed by the first day of the sixth month following the adoption of relevant regulations by the Department of Health. The bill also directs the Department of Health to create and disseminate informational literature on TSS through its website, aiming to enhance public awareness of this serious condition.
