This bill mandates that the Commissioner of Health require all hospitals, licensed birthing centers, federally qualified health centers, and healthcare practitioners in New Jersey to screen individuals who are pregnant or have recently given birth for endometriosis, specifically if they have been diagnosed with preeclampsia and later exhibit symptoms of the condition. The screening tools utilized must adhere to industry best practices as determined by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists or another recognized body designated by the commissioner. Additionally, healthcare providers must inform patients about endometriosis, its warning signs, and the benefits of screening, while also ensuring that patients acknowledge receipt of this information.

Furthermore, the bill outlines that the Commissioner of Health will develop a standardized form for patients to acknowledge the information received and to provide written refusal for screening if they choose. An educational program on endometriosis will also be created in consultation with the Endometriosis Foundation of America and other designated organizations, aimed at educating pregnant individuals and new mothers diagnosed with preeclampsia about the condition. Upon receiving screening results, healthcare providers are required to discuss these results with the patient and, if positive for endometriosis, create a treatment plan to mitigate risks associated with the condition.
