This bill mandates that starting with the grade eleven class in the first full school year after its enactment, students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as part of their high school graduation requirements. However, students can request an exemption from this requirement by submitting a signed form from a parent or guardian, or by the student themselves if they are at least 18 years old.
Additionally, the bill requires the Commissioner of Education, in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, to create and distribute a list of resources that will provide guidance on completing the FAFSA. This initiative aims to ensure that students and their families have the necessary support and information to navigate the financial aid process effectively.
