OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE SERVICES
The OLS estimates that this bill will reduce State revenues by $50,000 to $70,000 annually
beginning in FY 2024.
The OLS infers that approximately 50,000 individuals over the age of 18 change their name in
the United States annually. New Jersey’s adult population makes up approximately 2.4 percent of
the United States’ adult population. This would equate to approximately 1,200 people changing
their name in New Jersey annually. For purposes of this estimate, the OLS assumes 1,000 to 1,400
people will file for a certified copy of a name change order in this State each year, which will
reduce State revenues by $50,000 to $70,000 annually.
