This bill amends RSA 262:35-a, III to allow individuals, other than the vehicle's owner, to retrieve necessary work-related items and personal belongings from an impounded vehicle, provided they are accompanied by the vehicle's owner and can prove ownership of the items. The new legal language specifies that items essential for daily living, such as work tools, clothing, medication, and personal documents, can be retrieved without restriction. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the custodian of the vehicle must allow access for this purpose, as long as it does not interfere with the vehicle's removal and storage process.

The bill also includes provisions regarding the storage of items within the impounded vehicle. It allows the person storing the vehicle to hold certain items, excluding essential items like wallets, clothing, and medical equipment, pending payment of any fees. If fees remain unpaid after 20 days, the person may dispose of the items. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
