This bill amends existing law to establish new criteria for the display of portraits depicting individuals in certain areas of the statehouse. Specifically, it stipulates that such portraits may only be hung if the subject has been deceased for at least 10 years and has provided exemplary and noteworthy services to the citizens of the state. The bill modifies RSA 14:14-b to include the insertion of language that explicitly prohibits the placement of portraits in the statehouse unless these conditions are met.

Additionally, the bill maintains existing regulations regarding the placement of memorial objects in the statehouse, which require the consent of the governor and council and the direction of the joint legislative historical committee in consultation with the director of the division of historical resources. The new provisions aim to ensure that only those individuals who have made significant contributions to the state are honored in this manner, thereby enhancing the integrity of the statehouse's memorial displays. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
