This bill amends the Controlled Drug Act to clarify exceptions to the existing 34-day limit on prescriptions for controlled drugs. Specifically, it allows pharmacists to fill prescriptions for certain controlled drugs in greater quantities under specific conditions. The bill repeals and reenacts RSA 318-B:9, IV, which previously restricted prescriptions to a maximum of 34 days. The new provisions permit prescriptions for commercially packaged controlled drugs to be filled for up to 60 days, and for amphetamines and methylphenidate hydrochloride, up to 90 days if used for specific medical conditions.
Additionally, the bill introduces new language allowing prescriptions for both topically applied and injectable androgens prescribed for the treatment of chronic low testosterone to be filled for up to 92 days. This change aims to improve patient care by ensuring that individuals requiring these medications have adequate supplies without the need for frequent refills. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage, with an effective date of July 21, 2026.
