This bill amends the Controlled Drug Act to clarify exceptions to the existing 34-day limit on prescriptions for controlled drugs. Specifically, it allows for certain controlled drugs, such as those commercially packaged for direct patient dispensing, to be filled for up to 60 days. Additionally, it permits prescriptions for amphetamines and methylphenidate hydrochloride to be filled for up to 90 days when used for specific medical conditions, and introduces new provisions allowing prescriptions for both topically applied and injectable androgens prescribed for the treatment of chronic low testosterone to be filled for up to 92 days.
The bill repeals and reenacts RSA 318-B:9, IV, which previously restricted prescriptions for controlled drugs to a maximum of 34 days, with the new language specifying the conditions under which longer supplies can be dispensed. The effective date of the act is set for 60 days after its passage.
