The "Pregnancy Resource Center Freedom of Expression Act" prohibits state and local governments from imposing regulations on pregnancy resource centers that relate to abortion and contraception services. Specifically, the bill prevents any state agency, subdivision, or municipality from requiring these centers to perform or refer for abortions, provide chemical abortion drugs or contraception, or promote such services in any form. Additionally, it protects the centers from being penalized for not offering services related to abortion or contraception, ensuring they can continue to provide support and resources for pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting without interference.
Furthermore, the bill allows pregnancy resource centers or individuals harmed by violations of this act to pursue legal action against the state or local governments for damages or injunctive relief. This includes the ability to seek monetary damages, reasonable attorneys' fees, and court costs. The act also includes a severability clause, ensuring that if any part of the law is found invalid, the remaining provisions will still be enforceable. The law is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
