This bill revises the definition of "veteran" in state law to align with the federal definition found in Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The new definition specifies that a "veteran" is a person who has served in the active military, naval, air, or space service and has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. The bill also repeals and reenacts existing language in RSA 21:50, I, and updates cross-references in other statutes, including RSA 99-F:6, II(a), which now requires proof of veteran status to be submitted with employment applications.

Additionally, the bill amends provisions related to special number plates for veterans under RSA 261:87-b, I, and eligibility for multi-use veterans decal plates under RSA 261-C:3. The amendments remove outdated references to proof of veteran status and clarify that special plates will be issued to veterans as defined in the new statute. The bill ensures that surviving spouses can continue to use the special plates after the veteran's death until they remarry. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
