This bill amends the requirements for licensure as a professional engineer by eliminating the stipulation that the 10 years of accumulated engineering experience must be under the direction of a licensed professional engineer. Additionally, it removes the requirement that the education or experience must be satisfactory to the board of professional engineers. The new legal language specifies that applicants with a minimum of a bachelor of science degree from an accredited institution and over 10 years of engineering experience can apply to sit for the professional engineers examination without needing to meet these previous conditions.
The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage and is projected to have a fiscal impact of less than $10,000 in each fiscal year from 2026 to 2029. The Office of Professional Licensure and Certification has been contacted regarding this legislation.
