This bill amends existing election laws to clarify the authority of moderators regarding electioneering at polling places. It establishes that moderators must create no-electioneering corridors that are at least 10 feet wide, extending from polling place entrances, ensuring voters can enter and exit without interference. The bill specifies that the no-electioneering corridor cannot extend beyond the property where the election is held and that moderators only have control over these corridors during polling hours. Additionally, moderators are required to designate a preferred area for electioneering, which should be visible and accessible to voters, and they will also only have control over this area while the polling place is open.
The bill further stipulates that electioneering is permitted outside both the no-electioneering corridor and the designated electioneering area. It prohibits electioneering signs from being attached to the polling place or left unattended while the polling place is open, although unattended signs may be placed in the electioneering area up to 24 hours before polling begins. The definition of "attended" is clarified to mean that a candidate or volunteer must be nearby the sign. The act will take effect 60 days after its passage.
