This bill amends existing laws regarding the use of telemedicine for prescribing non-opioid and opioid controlled substances classified in schedules II through IV. It allows not only physicians but also physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to prescribe these medications via telemedicine. The bill removes the requirement for an in-person examination prior to prescribing, replacing it with a requirement for a subsequent evaluation to be conducted at appropriate intervals, but no less than annually. This change aims to streamline the process of prescribing controlled substances while ensuring patient safety through regular evaluations.

Additionally, the bill specifies that all prescribing must comply with federal and state laws and regulations. The new provisions clarify the roles of physician assistants and APRNs in prescribing controlled substances through telemedicine, thereby expanding access to necessary medications while maintaining regulatory oversight. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
