This bill amends the regulations regarding mandatory on-site parking requirements for residential units by modifying the maximum number of accessory parking spaces that municipalities can require. Specifically, it changes the requirement from a maximum of 1.5 residential parking spaces per unit to a maximum of one residential parking space per unit. The previous provision that allowed for 1.5 parking spaces for studio and one-bedroom units under 1000 square feet that qualify as workforce housing, as well as for multi-family developments of 10 units or more, has been deleted from the law.
The bill aims to provide municipalities with the authority to regulate accessory parking while simplifying the requirements for residential units. The effective date of this act is set for 60 days after its passage, allowing for a transition period for municipalities to adjust to the new regulations.
