This bill introduces a new section to RSA 155-A, specifically addressing the requirements for summer camp cabins. It defines a "summer camp cabin" as a structure that is no more than two stories, accommodates 60 or fewer persons, and is occupied for no more than 150 days within a rolling 365-day period. The bill stipulates that summer camp cabins must have two means of egress and outlines specific safety measures, including the installation of smoke detectors and handheld fire extinguishers. However, it exempts these cabins from having plumbing or electrical systems unless they choose to install them, in which case the relevant codes would apply.
Additionally, the bill states that the building and fire codes will not impose any requirements on summer camp cabins that are more stringent than those outlined in this new section. This includes the provision that sprinkler systems are not required for these cabins. The emergency exit plans for each bunk must be made available to the state fire marshal or their designee upon request. The act will take effect 60 days after its passage.
