This bill amends the definition of "family" for the purpose of purchasing a hike safe card to include domestic partners and their children. Specifically, it adds language to the existing law to define a family as consisting of the purchaser, their spouse or domestic partner, and their minor children or stepchildren, as well as the minor children of the purchaser's domestic partner. Additionally, it states that if the purchaser or their spouse or domestic partner is a family guardian for an individual, that individual will also be considered part of the family. The bill also clarifies that a "domestic partner" is defined as someone who shares the same address as the purchaser.

The bill includes provisions for the issuance and renewal of hike safe cards, with fees established by the executive director. It mandates that the collected fees, minus a transaction fee for the Internet license agent, be forwarded to the state treasurer for deposit in the fish and game search and rescue fund. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage, with an effective date of August 30, 2025.
