This bill establishes a revised Math Learning Communities Program in public secondary schools, aimed at supporting students who struggle with mathematics and need additional assistance to transition successfully from high school to college and careers. The existing law, RSA 193-I, is repealed and reenacted to create a new framework for the program, which will be administered through the Community College System of New Hampshire in collaboration with public secondary schools. The program will provide access to high school-level courses that focus on mastering Algebra 2 concepts, and it will include ongoing training and professional development for teachers to better engage students who have not retained prior mathematical knowledge.
Additionally, the bill appropriates funds to support the program, allocating $200,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, and $250,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, with the same amount designated for each subsequent fiscal year. This funding is non-lapsing, meaning any unspent funds will carry over to the next fiscal year. The Community College System of New Hampshire is required to submit an annual report detailing the program's participation and outcomes to the Department of Education and relevant legislative committees. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
