This bill aims to update New Hampshire's building code to align with more recent energy efficiency standards, specifically by adopting the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code or a similar code that provides equivalent or greater energy savings. The purpose of this update is to enable the state to access federal funding opportunities related to energy efficiency, such as those provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

To implement this change, the bill amends the definition of the "New Hampshire building code" or "state building code" in RSA 155-A:1, IV. The current reference to the International Energy Conservation Code 2018 is deleted and replaced with the 2021 version, along with the insertion of language that allows for the adoption of a similar code that achieves equivalent or greater energy savings. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
