This bill proposes to move the state primary election date from September to June in even-numbered years. It amends several sections of current law to reflect this change. For example, it changes the date of the state primary election from the second Tuesday in September to the second Tuesday in June. It also changes the date of the session for change of registration of legal voters before the state primary election from the Tuesday before the first Wednesday in June to the Tuesday before the first Wednesday in March. The bill specifies that no person can affiliate with or disaffiliate from a party between the first Wednesday in March and the day before the state primary election. The bill also changes the date for filing a declaration of candidacy for the primary from the first Wednesday in June to the first Wednesday in March. The bill has an effective date of January 1, 2025.
