This bill mandates that group insurance policies, health service corporations, and health maintenance organizations provide coverage for prosthetic devices, including activity-specific prosthetic devices, for children under the age of 19 who are residents of the state and covered by such insurance. The coverage for activity-specific prosthetic devices may be limited to one per plan year, but medically necessary prosthetic devices are not subject to any annual limits. The coverage includes all necessary materials and components, instruction on using the device, and repair or replacement if medically necessary or to maximize the child's ability to engage in a specific activity. The bill defines "prosthetic" as an artificial substitute for a body part and "activity-specific prosthetic device" as one designed for a specific activity that could damage the everyday prosthesis or when the everyday prosthesis would not function effectively.

The bill also amends RSA 420-A:2 and RSA 420-B:20, III to include the new section RSA 415:18-ff in the list of applicable statutes for health service corporations and health maintenance organizations, respectively. This ensures that the requirements for prosthetic device coverage for children are incorporated into the governance of these entities. The bill does not apply to plans available through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
