This bill amends existing law to allow individuals with medical conditions to apply for a special permit that waives the prohibition on after-market window tinting on motor vehicles. Specifically, it modifies RSA 266:58-a, III-a to include the option for after-market tinting not only on the windshield but also on the windows to the left and right of the driver. The bill also amends RSA 266:61-a, IX, enabling the commissioner to issue a special permit for after-market tinting on these windows for those with bona fide medical reasons.

The new legislation changes the minimum light transmittance requirement for after-market tinted windows from 70 percent to 35 percent for those with a special permit. The commissioner may consult a medical review board when considering applications for the permit. The act was approved on June 14, 2024, and will take effect on September 12, 2024.
