This bill amends the definition of "provider" in the therapeutic cannabis program to include physician assistants and other health care providers licensed to prescribe drugs who are primarily responsible for the patient's care related to their qualifying medical condition. The amendment specifies that these providers must have an active registration from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration to prescribe controlled substances. The bill also introduces a new category of providers in New Hampshire who can certify patients for the therapeutic cannabis program, provided they meet the same DEA registration and patient care responsibility criteria.

Additionally, the bill modifies the requirements for issuing a registry identification card to a minor. It now requires certification from two providers, one of whom must be a pediatric care provider, changing the previous requirement of a pediatrician to a broader category. The bill is set to take effect 60 days after its passage, with an approved date of July 26, 2024, and an effective date of September 24, 2024.
