This bill prohibits a person from serving on both the local select board or other municipal governing body and the school board in the same jurisdiction. It adds a new paragraph to RSA 669:7, stating that no person can declare candidacy or be nominated for positions on both the school board and the select board or other local municipal governing body in their jurisdiction.

The bill also includes provisions for enforcement and filling vacant positions. Anyone currently holding both positions must immediately resign from one of them. The vacant position can be temporarily filled by appointment with a majority vote of the remaining members, or by an appointment made by the chair of the board if the members cannot agree. The attorney general can enforce this section by bringing a suit against anyone refusing to abandon one of the positions, and a court can order the person to vacate one of the positions and reimburse the attorney general for costs. The effective date of this act is January 1, 2025.
