This bill introduces regulations concerning the use of front lights and headlamps on motor vehicles, as well as lighted signs on vehicles of service providers. It amends RSA 266:78-a, I by adding a new definition for "Transportation network company (TNC) or rideshare lighted signs," which are used to identify vehicles as service providers under RSA 359-U. The bill also amends RSA 266:31 to specify requirements for front lights on motor vehicles, including the times they must be used, the distance at which they must make objects visible, the approved height for headlamps, and the color of the light emitted. It states that headlamps must shine white against a white surface, with all other forward-facing lights being amber or white, except for fog lights, which may shine yellow. The provisions do not apply to vehicles with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) front lighting systems or similar systems installed as standard by the vehicle manufacturer.
Additionally, the bill introduces a new section, RSA 266:78-s, allowing vehicles using TNC or rideshare lighted signs to illuminate such signs while not in motion. It also amends RSA 266:37 by adding a paragraph that prohibits the use of aftermarket LED light bars, flood light style pod lights, and roof or roll bar mounted lights while operating on a way. The act is approved on July 19, 2024, and will take effect 60 days after its passage, which is on September 17, 2024.
