This bill requires school districts to develop policies allowing parents of children with individualized education programs (IEPs) to observe their child in the classroom. The policies must provide timely access to parents and parent-designated independent evaluators and educational consultants for observations of the child's current IEP and any proposed program. Parents and their designees must be given sufficient time and access to evaluate the child's performance and the effectiveness of the proposed program. The bill also states that school districts cannot impose any conditions or restrictions on these observations, except those necessary for safety or to protect confidential information. The Department of Education will develop rules regarding the development of these policies. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2024.
