This resolution proposes a constitutional amendment in New Hampshire to change the default oath of office for civil officers from a religious oath to a non-religious oath. Currently, civil officers are offered a religious-based oath by default and must request a non-religious oath if desired. If this amendment is adopted, civil officers would be offered a non-religious oath by default and could request a religious oath if desired. The amendment would be submitted to the qualified voters of the state at the state general election in November 2024. If approved by two-thirds of those voting on the amendment, it would become effective when the governor proclaims its adoption.
