The bill amends the existing crime of nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images to include the dissemination of synthetic sexual images. The definition of "disseminate" has been expanded to include posting or sharing electronically and other forms of distribution, while the term "distribute" has been deleted. Additionally, the bill introduces a new term, "synthetic image," which refers to an image that has been altered or created to depict an individual's image in a realistic but false representation.

The bill creates a new paragraph in the Criminal Code under Breaches of the Peace and Related Offenses, specifying that a person commits the offense of nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images when they purposefully disseminate a synthetic image with the intent to harass, intimidate, threaten, or coerce the depicted person. This includes the use of recognizable individual's images manipulated or altered to create a realistic but false depiction of the individual’s intimate parts, sexual acts, or sexual activity without the individual's consent. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
