This bill amends RSA 261:90 to allow for the issuance of special cover plates that can be displayed alongside regular motor vehicle plates. These special plates, which feature the state seal, are available to a range of officials including U.S. senators, representatives to congress, the governor, members of the governor's council, state legislative members, the attorney general, the secretary of state, the state treasurer, the President of the United States and members of the executive staff, and ambassadors or members of the foreign diplomatic corps. The plates are white with green lettering, alternating with red lettering every other biennium, and include the title or designated number of the official. The fee for these plates is $1 in addition to any other number plate manufacturing fee, and they are to be manufactured at the state prison at cost.
The bill specifies that a cover plate and a regular motor vehicle plate may be displayed simultaneously on the same vehicle, with one plate on the front and the other on the rear. This is a new insertion into the law. The bill also clarifies that the issuance of these special cover plates does not affect the issuance of regular motor vehicle plates and the associated registration fee. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage, with an approved date of June 14, 2024, and an effective date of August 13, 2024.
