This bill amends RSA 654:31, II to facilitate the provision of voter checklists to individuals in electronic format. It mandates that towns and cities must offer a copy of the most recent public checklist in either physical or electronic form to anyone who requests it. The new language specifies that the electronic copy must be provided in at least one sortable format, such as a spreadsheet, and can be sent via email or other electronic media provided by the clerk. The first electronic copy request per election is free, after which a fee of up to $25 may be charged for additional electronic copies.
The bill also updates the fees associated with obtaining a paper copy of the public checklist, setting a charge of $25 for each paper copy. For checklists with more than 2,500 names, an additional fee of $0.50 per thousand names or portion thereof exceeding 2,500 names will be applied, along with any shipping costs. The bill removes the option to provide the checklist on computer disk, computer tape, or electronic transfer, and instead includes a broader term "in electronic formats" for the provision of the checklist. The act is approved on August 02, 2024, and will take effect on October 01, 2024.
