This bill pertains to the record-keeping requirements of hotels and similar establishments regarding their guests. It amends RSA 353:3 to clarify that hotels, public lodging houses, tourist camps, or cabins are required to maintain a record of the legal name of each registered guest. The previous requirement for a book or card system where each guest signs their own name has been removed. Instead, the new language specifies that a record of the legal name of the registered guest must be kept, and this record must be accessible at all times for inspection by the sheriff, the sheriff's deputies, or any police officer.

The bill also defines "public lodging house" as a lodging house that habitually rents out more than two rooms for less than a week at a time to accommodate transients. Noncompliance with the provisions of this section is classified as a misdemeanor. The act was approved on July 28, 2023, and is set to take effect on September 26, 2023.
