This bill aims to clarify and modify the regulations regarding the number of hours minors are allowed to work during the school year, as well as the times they are permitted to work at night. The bill amends RSA 276-A:4, VI and VII, specifying that youths aged 16 or 17 who are enrolled in school cannot work more than 35 hours in a week when school is in session, excluding the school's vacation week. It also redefines "summer vacation" as the period between the end of one school year and the beginning of the next, rather than the previous definition of June 1 through Labor Day. The bill exempts youths of the same age group who reside and work at a summer camp for minors from the prohibition of working more than 6 consecutive days or 48 hours in any one week during school vacations.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new section, RSA 276-A:13-a, which restricts the hours during which minors can work at night while school is in session. Under this new provision, minors are not allowed to work later than 9:00 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, or later than 12:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The effective date for the enactment of this bill is set for January 1, 2024.
