This bill, known as the Matthew Brown Act, requires student identification cards for grades 6-12 to include the telephone number for the National Eating Disorders Helpline. This requirement applies to all student identification cards issued for the first time after the effective date of the bill, as well as replacement cards issued for damaged or lost cards. Public schools and charter schools must certify annually that the contact information on the cards is accurate and up to date. The National Eating Disorders Helpline must be labeled on the cards and include the current phone number at the time of production. The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage.
