This bill revises the membership and structure of the New Hampshire commission on Native American affairs. The bill establishes the commission to recognize the historic and cultural contributions of Native Americans in New Hampshire and to promote and strengthen their heritage. The commission will consist of members who are representative of diverse groups and organizations knowledgeable about Native American history, culture, and affairs. The bill also outlines the responsibilities of the commission, including reviewing and studying issues common to Native Americans in the state, assisting with the preservation and protection of Native American artifacts and burial grounds, and providing assistance to Native American groups and individuals in accessing social services, education, employment opportunities, and healthcare. The commission will meet at least four times a year and may accept gifts, grants, or donations to advance its purpose and duties. The commission will submit an annual report of its activities, findings, and recommendations to the governor and other specified officials. The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage.
