This bill aims to limit the rental application fees and other fees charged by landlords during the rental application process for residential properties. It prohibits landlords from charging a rental application fee that exceeds $35 or the cost of conducting a background check, whichever is less. Additionally, any other fee charged by the landlord as part of the rental application process must be refundable, cannot exceed $250, and can be either refunded or credited toward the security deposit, at the tenant's discretion. The bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2024.
